This is my 1998 NHW10 with 90,000km today 19th April 2011 driving WITHOUT any stupid "power jockey" installed & without spending a ridiculous amount of money buying a new HV battery. You won't see any little orange turtle OR red triangle of death (as some call it) and the performance is great. Turns off when at the lights or in traffic, speeds up smoothly, can drive purely on electric & maintains 100+km/h without a problem.
Just thought I'd post this up to prove a point. The 1st generation Japanese Prius is not ready for the scrap yard as some may suggest. You can bring them back to life with a little time & effort.
Consider this, my car was revving its guts out & unable to drive anywhere in approx. July 2009.
I then had the HV reconditioned and the engine serviced properly. Since then I haven't had a problem.
I am asked regularly by non hybrid drivers "how many km to a tank?" Soooo
I recently filled up a 10Ltr petrol can to leave in the boot & filled up the fuel tank to the top, then drove the car till it ran out of fuel & guess what..... I got 861km to a tank (then used the 10ltrs to get going again).
Video quality isn't that great, might post a better one soon showing acceleration etc. etc.
This is really cool of you to post this video and I really hope there is more to come. Promise me you'll upload more?
I've been into the Prius for years now and have had all three generations. NHW11, NHW20, and ZVW30. You just never hear about the NHW10 model though. ): Even Google barley has any results.
