This is a clip of our high school performing Elton John's AIDA. This involved everyone in the cast, except for me, Amneris, and Zoser.

  • ok..i love the one who played AIda..but really even though she CAN sing..this play needs a "black" Aida. I mean that's what its based on and sosmetimes u need the black sprit and soul in all the song Aida sings.I'm not being mean its just the truth

  • actually it's not based on a black aida, not all nubians were black, they just had darker skin, which she clearly has in the show. the only reason people think aida should be black is because heather headley played her in the original cast, but it's not necessary. This is also an extremely white suburban high school, with literally 3 black people, go yell at black people to come move to Fairport if you want to see a black Aida.

  • Can people stop obsessing over the races of the cast??? It honestly doesn't matter. And the story doesn't center around a white man falling in love with a black woman!!! It is about Aida, a slave from the enemy country and Radames, the leader of Egypt falling in love. Bottom line: it's about a forbidden love. The cast was great!

  • the captain isn't white, hes egyptian. just because adam pascal is white and the original aida was black doesnt mean that every cast has to be exactly the same. that's what live theatre is, a variety.

  • y was it so rushed.????

  • Ooohhhh~! Got the goosebumps when the refrain started...! Great job you guys! :D

  • Just an opinion, but I think it would've been cool to see everyone in the back play a part in the dance sequence. Good job though.

  • this is a high school production. like all high schools, the'yre going to have limited resources. my school is doing this, only amansaro is black. if it were a professional production, then yes, black actors for aida, mereb, and nehebka are expected, but this isnt professional. on another note, i was disapointed with the dancing. for a highly emotional piece like this, i feel they should have tried to included more than 5 people, even if they cant dance, just my opinion

  • @defying4266

Well, not even black just a darker person. I am currently in Aida, our Aida looks almost greek, quite egyptian actually, her voice is deep like the original broadway character.

  • My high school is putting on Aida for the next two weeks and we are all sooo white! But we solved the problem by getting the whole cast spray tans. :)

  • i dont care that aida was white, because she was good.

but the dance break should've been more like an african tribal dance, instead of like, yoga. just an opinion.

  • @mydogpepsi nope, i said what i meant. thanks for the attempt to correct me.

    see ya! Happy New Year

  • you mean nubian...

  • I know what pikablu was trying to say, but how about we're all just American and leave it at that? Black (nowadays) is a broad generalization that encompasses west indians and other subcultures as well. The term "Black" would not have existed if slaves were not transported to the Americas anyway in my opinion but that's a whole 'nother thing altogether.
