The comparison is valid. Especially since religion was the basis for both types of descrimination. The bible was used to justify slavery in America during the civil war, and it eventually was used to justify outlawing marraige between a black man/woman and a white man/woman, or any other skin color with white man/woman for that matter.

An APA study wrongly & incompetently found that women (in general) do not experience significant emotional repercussions from abortion (s).The findings have been modified, but the point is that there were methodological flaws in the original studies. People who accept conditional findings of studies at face value are very naive. Imagine a study purporting to find that women are not harmed by non-violent rape! That too makes no sense

As relaxed as I am about gay marriage, I find some of the language used by the gay-marriage activists to be misleading. Sexism, racism and discrimination based on sexual orientation are different classes of distinction. They may all be wrong, but, to the extent they are wrong, they are wrong in different ways. For example, gender-segregation in changing rooms is actually encouraged, while segregating changing rooms based on race or sexual orientation would be rightly considered bigoted.
