On the Smooth-On website, there are calculators to estimate the amount of rubber or plastic you will need: smooth-on [dot] com/tools.php Also, feel free to call or email us with the specifics of your project to get a better estimate.

because pour molds require more silicone than brush on molds i'd like to reduce my cost as much as possible. I'll build a custom shaped box but what is the minimum distance from around the sculpture that i should build my box? half an inch?

We recommend 3/8" minimum wall thickness for most applications.

you could pour the silicone over the entire piece and cut it out with a knife.
