Labor Day weekend tours of the USS Independence, which docks in St. Petersburg's port today,

The 418-foot vessel was commissioned in January 2010 and launched from its home port of Mobile, Ala., that March. It was designed to operate close to shore and can be outfitted quickly with different mission modules to combat mines, submarines and enemy troops on land.

The Independence is built for speed and has a flight deck for helicopters and remote-controlled drones.

The vessel is expected to dock in St. Petersburg at 10 a.m.

No one can access the port unless they are ticketholders, but city officials are suggesting nearby places to view the ship as it enters local waters today near the Sunshine Skyway.

this was built at my ship yard i personally havent seen it in person but ive seen everything else its involved during build, were suppose to build 10 more of these and build 10 more JHSVs

was gonna to go but they ran out of tickets in 40 minutes. Work next door to where it is docked so I got some nice pics though.
