Helen Fielding named this character Mark Darcy because she adored Colin Firth so much in Pride and Prejudice. And therefore Colin was the only one who could play Mark Darcy :-)

LOL! I just realized that Colin Firth played another Mr. Darcy in the Bridget Jones movies! lol!
He played 'Mr. Darcy' in a BBC min-series version of Pride & Prejudice in 1995.
