  • I was just curious as to why the 8 yr old is in second grade? My 9 yr old is in 4th. Did you choose to wait? It's an honest question, no disrespect meant.

  • @rainyseason1975 Many children turn 8 during their second grade year. He was 8 for the first half of third grade too :)

  • We don't encounter every subject every school day. However, the nature walk that day was filled with informal science activities. During the school year we studied the ocean in depth as well as completing wildflower and insect projects. My older son also completed independent studies on astronomy. Instead of social studies classes we dig deep into geography and history starting in Kindergarten. This past school year we explored three European countries in depth as well as ancient history.

  • Learning Mandarin will give them a useful tool if God calls them to mission work. If not they will have a useful tool for the job market. It is a win-win situation. We are also learning Arabic, French, and Koine Greek.

  • I see, I've often wondered if I should have waited with my 6 yr old. Academics wise he's fine, but socially he's sooooo quiet. On the other hand, my oldest son started later and he's more outgoing. I'm wondering if it had anything to do with age. BTW: I love the idea of homeschooling, sounds like an amazing journey. Take Care:D

  • What about social studies and science? Do they study these subjects?

  • May I ask why you choose Mandarin as your foreign language? Is it to prepare them for future mission work in China?
