Declaring War on The Sinner's Prayer (Paul Washer)

save your screaming and hollering for people that actually listen to what you have to say. You, and people like you, are exactly why people across the world and America take little notice of Christianity. It is hard enough to get people to even listen to the message of Jesus, and it isn't because they aren't searching or receptive. It's because you think you have all the answers and you are the only one going to heaven and or people that think like you! Shame on you and your bigotry!

because before you can even start your walk of faith, before you can get your Christian baby steps lined up with God's grace and His Word, here comes someone like Paul Washer, telling you that your fruit is not lining up with God's Word and everything you have done up to this point is useless and you are not saved because you asked Jesus into your hearts. Only a Christian would be so self-righteous as to spew such venom and nonsense in an effort to prove he alone is right!

and he is angry and he is ranting and raving and screaming, nay bemoaning the fact that he alone is able to tell from your prayer or your attitude or whatever means he deems appropriate that you are not sincere. Yes, that means you. And with those analysis, he declares you unsaved, heading for hell and you haven't even got up from praying at the altar. Sounds like a good Christian to me. Never mind the fact that several people have prayed and fasted for your salvation and yet that is not enough.

I don't care who this guy is and his outbursts are not representative of authority. Because he says you are lost, doesn't mean you are lost. Who is he to gauge anyone's sincerity when they kneel at an altar and say a sinner's prayer? Most sinner's prayers include an acknowledgement of sin and the need to repent. Most people that pray that prayer are in fact not used to praying but they have a small seed of faith that God is listening and they are forgiven. But wait, here comes Joe Christian!!

what he's saying is not that a prayer can't begin your walk with Jesus, even if you really mean it in your heart. the point is if you really did mean it, and you really did give your life to Christ then the way you live will begin to change as you have been born again and are a new creation. if you just pray a prayer one time, and don't make the Lord sovereign over your life, it was an empty prayer you didn't mean. it's easy to say God is sovereign, but do you live like He is?
