A slide show of test renders of Maya Fur out of Maya 7.0. This is the sequel to "Maya Fur: Journey of the Fur."

Need some furry inspiration? Want something to compare your fur to? Then this is the show for you! (My fur sucks, but it's furry anyway, so it counts for something....)

Stay tuned for better fur in the future!

  • omg thats awsome!!..i want to animate but i just stated im not that good

ive been useing blender its really confusing T.T is maya better??

  • I'm not familiar with Blender, but I know Maya can be a big challenge if you try to teach yourself how to use it. I took a class on it. Thanks :-)

  • hi there, could you please give me some help with fur. Basically I have modelled my character which is a mouse and am looking to add fur to it.

Everytime I add fur it doesnt fully cover my object, it only appears in clumps about 3 clumps over the entire model with empty spaces in between. Ive tried painting the fur onto the object but that doesnt seem to want to do it either. have you any idea what could be the matter, much apprecieated.

    thanks

and by the way yor fur looks fantastic

  • Hi, it sounds like you haven't UV mapped your model yet... right? Make sure you have a very neat, clean, and evenly spaced out UV map (that you understand) before adding a Fur Description. The fur follows the UVs, which is why that is so important. When you map it, be careful about UVs being really close together - the closer the UVs, the thinner the fur on the model. If it's too thin, it may render as a bald spot. This tends to happen to my models a lot around the eyes and nose. Good luck!

  • 2 questions please answer both,What are the attribute options when it comes to fur, and is this included in Maya auto desk complete?

    _thank you

  • I think Maya Fur is only included in Maya Unlimited. Maya Fur is a plug-in, so if you have it, you have to activate it in the Plug-In Manager. Once it is activated, it is in the form of a pull-down menu under the Render tab. You would select your model and add a Fur Description to it, then with the Fur Description selected, you will find every attribute imaginable for the fur in the Attribute Editor.

  • wish i had the money for this stuff -sad face-

  • The legs are to long

  • Great progression! You can see improvements you've made very clearly. A large part of making fur look good is the lighting, but you've managed to give it that soft-edged look which is so crucial to creating fluffy things. Post more please. =)

  • man thats some good tests with maya fur

am doing lots of tests myself now

i will upload them when i get something good

we can exchange mails and info if you would like

    cheers

He's not being an asshole. Sure, he said it sucks, and could of said something more along the lines of "It needs work" but everything he said is true. Mayas built in fur sucks. There are better plugins and renders out there. The point is, a lot more time could of been spent. This isn't 3d animating, this is simply rendering.

  • wow dogfucking furfag, you suck ass

  • Ok patrickv shut the fuck up you piece of carpet munching, fudge packing, ass licking, genatal sucking, piece of shit. 3D animating is way much harder than you think!!

    Asshole piece of 

  • this fucking sucks. Take more time. It looks like you used the main mesh as the fur. What happened. The face turned out decent. The legs look like they went through a blender. Why dont you use something that is actually used for animation. Maya fur is horrible. Im using this crap for a big animation. I hate it. Autodesk even think it sucks.

  • Well done!
