Governor Bob Riley joins U.S. Transportation Secretary Mary Peters to oppose higher gas taxes and support public-private partnerships for road construction. At a news conference at the Alabama Department of Transportation, Governor Riley and Secretary Peters said increasing states' dependence on the federal government for badly-needed highway projects would be a step in the wrong direction.
