This is the opening scenes of act 3 of the Kirov Mariinsky Ballet Le Corsaire which has the orchestra playing Medora's solo. I do not know what happened in Tereshkina's Corsaire, but Fedotov, who conducted this performance, was a great conductor and unlikely to have such an occurence.
The cast includes
Medora - Anastasia Volochkova
Gulnara - Irina Zhelonkina
3 Odalisques in order of solos
Irina Sitnikova
Yulia Kasenkova
Irina Chistyakova - at age 41, jumping better than any ballerina in the world today, except Natalia Osipova

  • Yes the older ones won.

For me they semmed to know something better about being the odalisque. Maybe the oriental coquettish annui?

And though her assembles or brises or gargouillades are very compact, Sitnikova is lovely to watch.

  • I guess that is why Sitnikova is such a great teacher at the Vaganova school.

  • they are so good! In order:

    Irina Sitnikova

    Yulia Kasenkova

    Irina Chistyakova.

  • Except for Selina, these 3 are better. The older ones won.

  • I love this trio

  • Do you know, did Chistyakova ever dance Myrtha? I imagine she might be the only person other than Terekhova to complete all of the beats.

  • oh my - FEDOTOV!!! The maestro himself!!

  • Agreed. Chistyakova is the best 3rd Odalisque I've seen in addition to being my favorite Diamond Fairy and Bridesmaid Variation in DQ. I also prefer Selina as the 2nd Odalisque and would love to see her dance the 1st Odalisque as I'm sure her Gargouillades would be to die for.

  • I have always had a soft spot in my heart for Chistyakova. She was also a fine Odalisque in that 1989 (?) Kirov Corsaire DVD with Asylmuratova & Pankova. Also a fine Shade in that Kirov London performance of Bayadere with Makhalina/Nioradze/Ruzimatov.
