I relaxed a little, took my time, and improved the ornaments. The foot you see rather crudely 'bopping' is my left foot, and it is not stomping on damper pedal, even though it might look that way. I do use the damper very very sparingly, but the crazy bopping of my left foot is not an indication of that.

  • I've very much enjoyed your performance- and I'd love to hear you on a harpsichord. My 'reference' recording is that by Aimee Van De Wiele, on a Nonesuch record released about 1971. Almost every youtube I've heard, barring Nancy Allen's lovely harp interpretation. seems willfully hurried or to be beating the piece with a club. Yours seems just right- an air of reflective sadness, but holding its head high. The decorations are articulated very nicely! I frankly don't "get" the foot criticisms!

  • Thanks, OspreyD40. It's a great piece.

  • Great! Way better than take one. Very good ornamentation!

I like that you put your keyboard in harpsichord mode.

Just a suggestion to make your performance a bit more "harpsichord": try not using the pedal, what you do with it you can also do with your hands, and it will sound more natural.

  • Thanks, ut. Yes, as a pianist I find the allure of the pedal almost overpowering, but I do use it sparingly. I will keep working on it.

  • UtReMi, didn't realize in my first response months ago that you are probably refering to my bopping 'left' foot under the keyboard. Looks terrible! But I'm not bopping up and down on the damper pedal with my left foot. I actually use very little pedal on this piece; watch my hands and you can see at times I go to great lengths to use my fingers to create as much legato as I can.

  • What's so funny about so many of these electronic harpsichord simulators is that they actually sound more like the Deep Purple distorted organ sound than a medieval harpsichord. imo.

  • True, earlgrey. You have me chuckling. Wish I had the room and resources for a quality harpsichord. Piano is my first and tenderest love, though. I would go for that first.

  • @EmdrGreg I just got a nice harpsichord for $1000 USD. I spent another $300 in strings and minor repairs. I'll have it in 100% playable condition in the next month or so, I can't wait to try playing this on it!

  • Ahh, much better. The other video of yours sounded like you've had a pot of coffee and a case of Redbull before you played it. :) Great job!

  • you were almost flawlessly :D

  • Amazing nice piece ! and well played, MUCH better that your older version ! really loveley sound, and well played, and those trills absolulty wonderfull !

  • omg...what horrible sound...

  • One of the best of the many YouTube performances of this piece. I'd also like to hear you play it on a real harpsichord.

  • What type of Harpsichord/Keyboard is That?, I want to know i may buy one its so cool

  • To get the real deal just tuck your right foot back so you can't touch the sustaining pedal! This was a nice performance—thanks for sharing. But remember, with the pedal.... just say no!
