Here is some footage that was shot of me doing some voice-work based on Sami Joik. It is traditional Sami chanting with my own twist. I am calling this song 'The Joik of the Robin' because a Robin came and sat in the tree next to me as I sang - very cute!

I use sound/ voice/ instruments work with the landscape and the Sami have traditionally used Joik as a way of singing intuitively with the landcape to connect with the earth, elements and animals as well as to tell stories.

  • @Opigor so true mate!

  • true opigor

  • I'm in awe!! this has a Close resemblance to native American music

  • I joik while I do the housework...not as authentic as doing it whilest herding reindeer but never mind! I love it, comes straight from the guts, real earthy stuff...I love the way the robin joined you! My father uses Joiking in his impro workshops, it's amazing how people really free up...in fact i would go as far to say that it is this particular form of voicework that really helped me release my voice.

  • is she trying to sing Normo jovvna I believe it sounds similiar

  • This sounds amazing ^^ I really liked the part when it started to get a bit more upbeat, and your smile when the Robin flew in ^^ Keep it up <3

  • it is an old pagan ritual.

one that still exists, i personally know a Noaide

  • @lyzcooper thank you so much for this. I am an American of Scottish and Irish descent, and I'm always intrigued by "lesser-known" languages and/or cultures... I found this to be absolutely amazing and beautiful, please keep it up, and never stop making music. Much love from Virginia Beach.
