here is my chevy 350 swapped '86 mazda Rx7 base model in need of a paint job project. I did this the day before with my buddy whom I was giving a ride home, thought, why not let him tape it. Turned out good for my second attempt ever of a rear 180 into left drift.
The noise inside the car is totally different that outside. Inside I hear the revs and no tire squeel, outside you hear a lower exhaust note and tire squeel. This is a 160 miles per hour car, dunno the horsepower but its a '73 chevy 350 (probably rebuilt once or twice) so cubes are close to 355, it has a Edelbrock Performer RPM Cam and Intake, Holley 650 double pumper mech 2ndary, TH700R4 thanks to AAMCO transmitions in Vernon BC Canada ( my uncle owns the shop and did my tranny 4 free) stage 2 shift kit on the tranny controlled by a B&M Quicksilver ratchet shifter. Aluminum rad, battery behind rear bumper, Crane Cams points replacement electronic module rev limiter set to 6000. Headman headders to 2.25 straight pipes with H, and to top it all off theres nice small Dynomaxx mufflers tucked neatly away. Thanks to Granny's Speed Shop for their engine cradle & tranny x-member kit.
Sorry rotary enthus's I got this car for 400 bucks cuz its 13b was blown, when its dead, just lay it to rest and get a small block. 0-60 in 5 seconds, or so.

  • unless you got an aluminum block, youre gonna be nose heavy. I got iron heads n block, moved the battery to behind the rear bumper and mounted the alternator doen low. Still 200+ lbs on the nose over stock. But twice the power n torque. The rear ends are 4.10 so that M22 would be ok on hte street but you'd be climbing the rpms on the highway. I would go the 400 sb with the 700r4, the overdrive is nice. I got my car up to 160 mph at 5900 rpm 4th gear before I let go n came back to earth, mentally

  • I'm looking into this swap into my 86 GXL actually, is it very difficult/expensive?

  • I was worried about the weight myself. Then I figured out that the front end lifts up cause of all the torque hahahaha

  • what was wrong with the wanker motor ?

  • ya v8 is cool but I went with a 2jz, it is a little heavier than a v8 but not bad, my 2j7 wieghs 2995 pounds with a full tank of gas and it still sounds like an import.

  • @TheRx350 Well I already have access to a couple 350s, a couple 396s and a 400 small block along with a 700r4 or m22 rock crusher. I was wondering the engine mounting stuff and to keep the engine light to not throw off the weight i understand aluminum heads keep weight down well?
