ok birdman ive got a connex 3300 powering a texas star 500v. when i check my swr on just my radio its less that 1. but when i turn on my texas star my swrs shoot up to around 2 and a half. ive tryed a longer jumper and that didnt work. any ideas on what is going on. and how i can lower them. thanks

That is 1 cool station and complements on the Bird environment, nice man !!!!! I can only wonder what your antenna is like, perhaps a future antenna video, I assume your antenna would double as a bird perch ?????

do u know how to calibrate a 148 radio thx..

@OH2FFY don't listen to this person. It is very likely that you will kill your final transistors due to a very bad swr. But true you should not assume good antenna resonance, this is soley on antenna design and surroundings. But I would say it indicates a good impedence match which helps to optimise what you have. There are also other considerations like patch lead length etc.
Anyway, seems like you people are pretty slow, makes me wonder how you manage to get out here. Watts??

hella of a video man good vid!

OH2FY is half correct - You want to have as low as a SWR as possible. A high SWR more then 2:1 is not a good idea. Having a high SWR can cause your power output to drop, and at a certain level can cause final PA damage to the radio. Basically the higher your SWR the greater the impedance miss match from your antenna system to your radio , (you want to have as close to 50 ohms as possible. also legally you should really not be running any power its against the law.

Umm - NO -
High SWR doesn't burn up Pills , transistors tubes or finals.
There are a number of failure modes for these parts but the most common one is overdissipation.
SWR specifically is unrelated to the failure of the PA parts as many can handle a SWR of 20:1 , the popular 2SC1591 , 2SC1971 , 2SC2032 are just a few examples.
SWR readings are also unrelated to the antenna match , antenna resonance or antenna efficiency.

Hi birdman
You said at 1:21 that you can burn out the pills when you have more than 3 SWRs on your antenna loss.
Please describe how this happens , exactly - so I can understand.
Thanks.

@OH2FFY More than 3.0 SWR loss of antenna loss is a no no because you are using a transmeter to transmete the more loss the more your transistors will sufer what i mean is your signal will travel a less distance because its out of tune and everyting have a consequence that why 1.5 SWR or less is better. happy DXING MY Friend.
