Yoga and wellness expert Tara Stiles, owner of Strala Yoga in Manhattan, interviews Strala instructor Heidi Kristoffer, who specializes in teaching inversions in yoga, such as handstand, scorpion, and headstand, by making going upside down fun and approachable. Heidi came to a better understanding of inversions through a personal health crisis in which going these poses helped to ease pain in her back and even repaired her back. The combination of strengthening the core and the muscles around the spine was key, says Heidi. Inversions build strength, confidence, and happiness! Try to approach inversions not as scary poses; instead, think of them as a new way to transition between poses, suggests Heidi - and bring a child-like sensibility of lightness and exploration.
