It's the state symbol of my now-gone homeland, socialist East Germany (GDR). The peasants are represented by the garland of corn instead a sickle, while the workers hammer remained. The compass represents the scientists / intellectuals behind the revolution. In Germany the revolution wasn't only carried by peasants and workers, but also by many intellectuals. It's a reference to this fact.
It's nothing to do with freemasonry or any other obscure sect.

It's alright to ask; no need for apologies (although appreciated). I've been asked this before and maybe I'll make a video one day about the many different communist symbols around the world.
