@MsKrishtina Oiran predated the popularity of Geisha for quite awhile, and both danced and did music. A lot of the things Oiran did was later carried on by Geisha when they started getting popular, which wasn't until the late 1700s and early 1800s.

@ClaudiaVampiria Oiran were the original Geisha. In fact lots of Geisha when they first started out still did courtesan things for clients, though it eventually became phased out of the open. It wasn't until the 1800s that Oiran disappeared and there were really only Geisha around.
