My goal for the year 2012 is to really work on Twix's heelwork and get it looking really snazzy. I should have been working on this prior to now, but heelwork has never been my favorite thing to work on. Why? Well, I always thought heelwork was boring. However, I have decided to get a new attitude toward heelwork and vowed to start liking it and making it more fun. I think that by adding other moves to the heelwork such as a spin at my left side or a backward circle to the heel position again will make it less boring and it will keep Twix thinking and focused. This way he will not know if we are going to keep going forward or if I am going to suddenly ask for a fun turn or if I am going to move backward. In the past I only thought of heelwork as heeling (obedience style) and only moving forward. So, with adding tricks and direction changes it will make it more fun for me and for my dogs. :)

I am also going to go back to box work and get Twix in the proper position. I noticed that he would wrap his hind legs around mine instead of lining up straight. So, we have some work, but I think we are off to a great start.

I am proud of my boy. He is doing so well. Twix is my 2012 inspiration!

Have a Happy 2012!

  • Don't know what they call it w/dogs, but w/horses, that's a sidepass! And a nicely done one, too!

  • @stonedragonfarm I think it is called a side pass with dogs too... :) Thank you! We are still working on it and he is still learning, but gets better everyday! :)

  • How many heel vids do I have to peruse to learn how to do it?

  • @Dehzee Check out Kikopup channel and watch her rear end awareness video on teaching complex tricks. Start with that exercise. I will try to do a series on heeling when I have more time.

  • the T position also looks like a cross. So you could call it that too i guess ;)

  • @CloudsRaindrop THANK YOU!

  • @pamelamarxsen haha your welcome ;)

  • @CloudsRaindrop That is true, but I call crossing his paws, cross. :( The more tricks he knows the harder it is to think of cues. :)

  • Man, usually I feel pretty confident as a trainer, but I CANNOT get my dog to understand heeling. And we all know it's the human's fault when the dog doesn't understand. Frustrating... But Twix looks awesome!!

  • I love his little bark he has. Great job Twix!
