  • If the cliff was near the sea it probably was a turnstone.

  • I met one of these birds last week at the top of a cliff. It appeared to be foraging for insects. It had a rich dark back of chestnut and black, a "collar" of black, and was white underneath. It seemed quite tame and came up to within 30 cms of my feet. A very handsome and fast running bird.
