This is the first test of the flapturbine in water. Even though the device is designed from simple components it performed well. We believe that this device could be used for tidal energy production as well as producing power or pumping water from rivers.   • Primative - reminds me of a verticle mill wheel form the middle ages. From the looks of it the efficiency is very low. In reality anything placed in the water will work, but as to how much power it produces depends on the efficieny of the turbine. Typically Savonius types like this achieve around 10% where as lift devices like Darrieus produce 20%-25%. While it may have application for the backyard it would not compete in the commercial world.
