Hooray! I thought I was the only person on the planet who disliked Fawlty Towers — and for precisely the same reason as Rory McGrath: I'm not keen on laughing at mental defectives. Indeed, it's for just this reason that I cannot watch The Three Stooges, which countless people have informed me are utterly brilliant, or Jerry Lewis, who the French apparently adore. But no, I'm sorry, mental deficiency doesn't strike me as funny. How about a nice comedy about a rapist, then?

Have you ever watched Chelmsford 123? I never thought that was funny at all, so how he can say that Fawlty Towers is bad comedy I really don't know. I hate it when people deconstruct programmes from the 70's to make it sound rubbish.

Completely agree, Fawlty Towers was hilarious when I was 7 years old, but I couldn't stand to watch a second of it now, it's just cringing farce.
