  • @leviterande yes steam turbines were and are common--but need very dry steam- as droplets would rip apart the fans...

  • Though I'm no expert, I'm going to guess that it's because they're much more efficient when they have the ability to be run through a gearbox... Then you have x number of gears and ratios within the RPM band as opposed to one gear in the RPM band.

  • looks like it would self destruct after hours of use with a heave load, thats why old steam engines were huge cast iron slow rpm units

  • nice invention but I gotta ask this: why hasnt anybody turned steam DIRECTLY to propeller tips, rotor tips or at leas rotary eninges instead of piston engines? ... please explain?
