@deannan614 The symptoms you are experiencing do not indicate a failed ignition switch or passlock lock sensor. The moving of the lever back and forth to get the vehicle started is most likely a symptom of a failed neutral safety switch, misaligned shift linkage or a failing shift interlock solenoid. I recommend having a technician diagnose your vehicle as I am unable to accurately diagnose a vehicle without looking at it.
Does this video apply to a 2006 Saturn Ion? I'm trying to help a friend diagnose and fix his and it gets stuck in the run position.. Its an automatic transaxle, and he has to remove the fuel pump fuse and negative battery cable every time.

@slowstang88 Thanks for your inquiry. Unfortunately this does not apply to the Ion as it has a different lock configuration.

I am having a problem with my 2002 GMC sierra, the secuity light is coming on while driving once and a while and once every three months the truck will start and immediately die. would the ignition switch be the same as the one shown in this video? i have got it diagnosed by the delearship and they say it's the ignition switch. Does this sound accurate? any info would be great, thanks.

@cashdown69 There are 2 common culprits (the ignition lock housing and ignition lock cylinder) that could contribute to your security light and starting issue. Your vehicle uses a passlock sensor which is part of the lock cylinder housing assembly. The passlock sensor is of the hall effect design; it senses the rotation of the lock cylinder during cranking.

A failing passlock sensor or worn ignition lock cylinder can cause a bad signal to be transmitted to the Body Control Module causing a flashing security light accompanied by a no start or start die condition. It’s recommended to have a technician diagnose your vehicle as it’s difficult to accurately diagnose a vehicle without performing a physical diagnosis.

im having problems with my truck and think it may be something with the ignition, it will start everytime but when i get down the road a bit everything shuts down as if the key was off, and a second later its back on. any ideas?

@latinseduction1 There could be several contributing factors to your problem, such as bad wiring, ignition switch, or a faulty ground. It would be difficult to pinpoint the culprit without physically diagnosing the vehicle. I suggest looking at the ignition switch first as this component is a common failure item.
