How long have you been playing the Biwa? Im considering about learning to play it, but the problem is that here in America, its highly unlikely that someone will teach me... Are they expensive?

@RikuElement I've been playing for about 3 years now.

It would be hard to learn in the states because there are no teachers out there that I know of (although there could be some decent players, I'm talking about someone who is considered a master), and instruments are hard to find. Biwa are generally quite expensive, usually in the $3000 to $5000 range for a good used one, although you can get lucky. Keep your eye on Auction sites.

Thanks! The Satsuma biwa is from Japan, and thats where I learned how to play it.

Thank you for your comment! I'm working on singing traditional biwa songs like Kawanakajima from my teacher, but I will probably play the Chikuzen biwa in that case. I would love to learn Dan no Ura one day, but it will be very difficult to memorize a song that long, at least 10 or 15 minutes!

it's brilliant! I like the rythem and the sound when pachi hits the body! it seems you already master almost all the skills of contemporary satsuma biwa. do you learn to sing in a traditional way on class? like Dan no ura or sth...
