What about making lego car with an engine and manual gearbox and then add one of those simple one "piston" engines to switch the gear by press of a button? :D The engine RPMs would be a standard but you could change the miles/kilometers per hour by switching gear with a press of a button!

@supertjaard You mean RPMs? That can be solved with gears. Adding more gears requires ofcourse more torque from the motor, but that can be solved by using more powerful motor or using two motors!
