The hardest violin piece ever written? Dance of the Goblins' notorious final 45 seconds are nearly impossible to play cleanly at speed. This song was dropped from the repertoire as unplayable for several decades until Heifetz resurrected it.
The violinist must run a gauntlet of challenges: left hand pizzicato, ricochet, double stop 16th notes, and rapid fire half steps. All of this must be done while keeping up a blistering tempo, preserving a pleasing tone, and maintaining musicality.
Composed by Italian virtuoso Antonio Bazzini (1818-1897). The complete name is "Dance Of The Goblins (La Ronde des Lutins), Scherzo fantastique, Op. 25."

  • @tehrulez i agree, the pianists never get much recognition when they accompany someone like this, no matter how hard their part is! :(

  • @rarn2011 , His name is Tao Lin :). He's an amazing collaborative pianist based in FL.

  • How do people memorize this?! I would have to keep the music infront of me just to make sure I don't screw up!

  • @Jooeychew, you'd be surprised! I actually mess up MORE when I have the music!
