These are two recent experiments I lead at the UM3D Lab. The first is the Kinect from Xbox that we were able to stream into motion builder using www.brekel.com tutorial.

The second is using the Emotiv EPOC. We trained certain functions and mapped those movements/thoughts we were able to control our VR world.

  • @roidroid There is software available that allows gestures to control computer functions through the kinect. As for facial recognition, doing that with the kinect would be interesting, although we used the EPOC for that which seems to give consistent results. Also keep in mind the EPOC can be trained for thoughts as well, so by trying to push something within your mind, it can be mapped to moving forward. This was much harder to get consistent but it was accomplished.

  • i wonder if the Kinect's webcam data can be used to emulate the Emotiv's ability to discern facial emotion?

I mean, if the Kinect can SEE your face, it should be possible no?...
