  • how good does that baler push in the straw when you get into a heavy spot. I am a little drawn away from the way New Holland uses the forks instead of the auger to feed the chamber

  • This one is old enough that it uses an auger. I like the way the auger tends to even out the odd wads that get in there.

  • I also recall how mis-timing the tractor surges makes you look drunk on the trailer.

  • I'm glad that you enjoy the video. It sure is music to my ears running that outfit!

    Thanks!

  • Is that a New Holland model 66 baler? Shure looks like one. Cool video regardless.

  • Yep, that's an old #66. It works great. Thanks

  • Growing up on a farm we had an old 68 New Holland baler, and later had a New Holland 310. Ran em both behind a Farmall 450. That sound sure brings back memories. BTW, don't worry about folks telling you to speed it up. I've noticed that you want to keep the PTO speed right at 540 RPM on the nose. New Holland hasn't changed knotter designs in years (in fact the old 68 knotters would fit the 310 if they were in useable shape LOL) and if you overspeed the knotter drive it will miss guaranteed.

  • the good old days i miss, great vid.. thanks

  • I was wondering if anyone elses tractor sounded like mine while baling. I have a 1946 Massey-Harris 22 and a NH 273 Hayliner, I put 28ton up this summer..Great video.

  • I had a 300 utility years ago that I baled with.I still have the NH 67 baler. This video brings back a lot of memories

  • yeah the surging lurches are typical of lower torque engines... I bale with my SM and a deere 14T, it surges this bad in the heavy thick windrows . The only tractors I had that didn't surge like that were a SMD-TA and SWD-6. Both those diesels kept the baler (and stackers) steady as a rock. The SWD-6 dyno'd at a steady 65hp pto. The SMD-TA dyno'd steady at 63hp pto (same engine), and the old SM dyno's at 59-60 but at a lower torque output than the diesels

  • I used to pull a Massey 128 baler behind an old International 806. Perfect pair. We made about 1500 to 2000 bales a year. Sure miss the machinery. Now I run a computerized saw instead.

  • I thought I had it rough. 74 baler with a cut and welded together needle bar and the same tractor. the kicker spoils me. need sides on the wagon though and one blew over and shattered from ike in aftermath in Ohio. Oak lastsa long time. kind of brittle though.

  • Knowin' The Farmall Dr.he probably was drunk.A smoke and a PBR,eh.
