This is Ted Kennedy's presidential concession speech to Jimmy Carter in 1980 on the floor of the Democratic Convention. It is widely recognized as the last of the famous Camelot speeches by the Kennedy's.

  • I am a life long Republican and have nothing in common with you politically but I have always respected you as a person. You talk the talk AND walk the walk. You have been consistent in your principals and you have never wavered.

For too long, politics in this country has been mean spirited. Unfortunately, a lot of that has come from my party. I, and many others regret that.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

  • LBJ also signed the Voting Rights Act of 1965, the Medicare Act, the Higher Education Act(creating student loans),Fair Housing Act, Economic Opportunity Act, Urban Mass Transportation Act of 1964, renewed Social Security, and the Age Discrimination in Employment Act. For the most post LBJ was a great president unfortunately he will be forever linked to the Vietnam War.

  • It's this quote that struck home for me,

"But quality care shouldn't depend on your financial resources, or the type of job you have, or the medical condition you face. Every American should be able to get the same treatment that U.S. senators are entitled to."

Well said, Sen. Kennedy. Well said, indeed

  • Brown ! Brown , Brown !

  • "The Dream Never Dies" obviously because it never got into a car with Ted Kennedy.

  • fairness is fair if you think of it's proper definition. Fairness is not everyone gets the same thing. That's equality. Fairness is when everyone gets what everyone needs. It is only fair to grant what is needed.

  • Farewell dear Senator Kennedy and rest now in peace. Thank you so much, may your speeches continue to inspire people to work for a better world. Listening to your speeches give me a lot of comfort and reassurance that there might still be decent thinking people in America.

  • I am not a Democrat, but, this is one the best speeches that I've ever heard,

  • fairness is'nt fair
