If you mean a birth with an IV of saline and Pitocin, with an epidural so you have no sensation below your chest... then yes, a home water birth is more painful, because there are no drugs. BUT a home water birth compared to a non-medicated hospital birth is actually much LESS painful. Water acts as a relaxing influence, as well as eases some pain and aids in stretching. The calm environment also helps reduce stress.
