  • Great to see this layout again, thanks for posting the video

  • What a great set up - never seen a model hump shunting yard before - simple when you think about it. As regards to the speed of the freewheeling wagons... would using magnets stuck to the bottom of the wagons and also just under the track so that they attract cause a decreased acceleration? just a thought.

  • @WheelRider4Life you can either get a specialized piece of track or another one that just slots under the track

  • Nice layout. As an aside, I'm pretty sure they would *not* hump-shunt an oil tanker in real life, as is shown at 2:25 !

  • @WheelieRider4Life

they uncouple themseves by a special railway piece. you can buy them in shops like modelzone

  • How does the cars uncouple them selfs?

  • Five stars, brilliant. If you had less of a slope and ballasted cars you may get more realistic speeds but still a long enough run?

  • You can make a kind of retarder for the cars by placing small permanent magnets between the rails. Also placing magnets on the cars themselves. As the cars pass over the magnets, they slow down somewhat, but since momentum carries them on they don't become stuck. Pulling the train out with the locomotive doesn't cause that much trouble either, if you're careful.

  • I've been thinking about building a hump yard but, as this layout shows, the speed of the wagons reach when down the hump is a problem. I'm not having a go, I think it's a nice layout, but the wagons are running way too fast.
