Cover of Marshall Tuckers live "24 Hours At A Time" from the "Where We All Belong" album.
While I didn't buy many of their albums, a few got me hooked on Southern Rock before I got into the Allman Brothers. Toy Caldwell's incredible playing and tone really stand out on several cuts from "Where We Alll Belong".
For those of you who don't know Toy, he only played his right hand with his thumb, but could get incredible speed and tone - check out clips on You Tube - especially an incredible version of "Can't You See" featuring a very young Toy when the band was starting out.
On this version I've tried to capture some of the signature thumb playing which suits me since I don't use a pick, as well as some scratch picking on the solo.
This track is from a backing track available on the net which I heavily modified, sped up, etc and added layers and some other production values to give it more of a live feel (Also added some crowd cheers!).
My friend Tom provides lead vocals, backup is my daughter Amanda.
Enjoy!

  • Great.. I hope you do more Marshall Tucker....

  • Nice one. Whatever happened to Southern Rock, all you hear is country approximations.
