At the end of the day, we all want the same thing - no more violence and abuse on this planet. And restricting gun ownership by law-abiding citizens DOES NOT effectively accomplish the end of violence. It is proven EVERYWHERE that "gun-free zones" are EXACTLY WHERE criminal violence INCREASES. Chicago proves that beyond a shadow of a doubt. The UK and Australia are two more shining examples as well. Simply search and watch "Choose your own crime stats" on YouTube.

Gun violence has been a major problem in the US for decades. There were periods when it was worse, like during the era of the wild west and also during the 20s and 30s when organized crime syndicates or mob bosses like Al Capone ruled. The US managed to survive those violent eras. How the country's leaders, lawmakers and law enforcers did that back then is certainly worth analyzing.

Well, I won't lie, those shootings happen regularly. (The excuse of "It just happened," or "It was like someone else took control.") And, personally, I think there need to be more steps to getting these guns(mental examinations instead of just background checks.) but I have problems with what people are taking from this situation. What happened was a tragedy, a crime, something that words cannot put into context, and people are using it for their own selfish desires. That's what bothers me.

True. I have to say though, I find it troubling that a bi-polar person can get ahold of firearms. (My step dad is bi polar and he has quite a few, and I can say there are more than a few times when I was terrified he would use it on us).

Well, according to the wiki, he had Aspergers and Autism(That they knew of at the time.) and he started acting strange around 6 months before the incident(read some articles on Yahoo about it.) Being that people with aspergers and autism aren't typically violent, it really doesn't change the situation. However, if they had diagnosed him with a disease associated with violence(which, in retrospect, he clearly had) i would agree with you.(However, he would have been in an asylum for being a danger

The fact is, if the mother had a mentally messed up person in her household, she shouldnt have been allowed to obtain a gun legally.
