  • I was born in 72 and live near downtown. My mother would took me at least once I know. But after it closed she would still take me down there to go see a movie. And I would always be looking around for the rollercoaster and wondower what happen to it.

  • There also was a "spider" lady at the top. Basically she poked her head through a curtain made up like a web. She said "What questions do you have for the spider lady?" in a silly voice. We just stood there dumbfounded, and she retorted "Well, I don't know what to say if you don't have any questions". She got all annoyed! So funny!

  • I was there - I was only four years old. A crazy circus performer jumped down the escalator and scared us so bad we almost fell backwards. The pinball ride was the best part for sure - I had forgotten about the midgets though - Funny stuff!

  • At least the SMK shows are still going strong even on DVD or blu-ray..

  • I am one of the few that went and remember the lady at the top of the escalator. The live pinball machine ride was amazing. My dad owned pinball machines and i was captivated. The colors were a diffident sign of the 1970's very vivid. The toys I brought home were something I wish I still had. I loved it had a wonderful time with my Uncle and his grandchildren. i rode the pinball machine three times.

  • Thanks for the oral history. I just got back from a stay at the Omni and someone on the CNN Studio Tour mentioned it was the former home to the World of Sid & Marty Kroft.

  • @pika23

It sounds nightmarish to me. The Krofft stuff always freaked me out as a kid. This guy's description is pretty funny though- when he wraps it up.

  • I remember going with my wife. At the top of the escalator a woman in a wild costume asked us, "Did you bring your imagination?" It was a bit like a circus side show, with creative rides, the coolest merry-go-round, and a lot of fun. I was surprised it wasn't successful. The rink was "green ice" I believe, and lots of shops. We went back 6 months later and it was all borded up.

  • I went there on my sixth birthday, and it was such a dazzling place for me. My dad also worked at the Omni International at the time. I have to really laugh because if there is one thing I remember about it -- it IS that damned mime! God, I remember how annoyed I was. I even have a picture of the mime.

  • i love toy history..and i love this...theres not alot fo info on sid and marty info..this is like the best ive heard on it...it was informative and interesting too ..thank you ..: )
