Last scenes of the 1990 movie "Korczak" by Andrzej Wajda. Based on the true story of Dr. Janusz Korczak, a renowned Jewish-Polish physician and author, who ran a home for Jewish Orphans in 1930's Warsaw, Poland. When the orphans were deported to the gas chambers of Treblinka, Dr. Korczak was offered a chance to escape, but he refused to abandon his children, and remained with them until the end. The magic realism at the end of the movie adds emotional and lyrical power to Dr. Korczak's extraordinary humanity in the face of unspeakable bestiality.
One and a half million Jewish children were murdered during the holocaust.

This polish Doctor actually did this . He walked into the gas Chambers of Treblinka rather than desert his children....What a tragedy that the Germans did this. Unbelievable.

Wow. The spring play at my school is Korczak's children, the story of Doctor Korczak and his jewish Orphanage in the Warsaw Ghetto. I play Mrs. Bron, a member of the jewish council. No matter what, this man would sacrifice his life in order for his children to live. it is a truly moving story/
