I like video responses. They are wonderful. Comments are beautiful too.

Question: Can we put an end to war?

I slightly misquoted Einstein, who co-wrote these words with Bertrand Russel as part of a manifesto in 1955. Here is the original:

"Here, then, is the problem which we present to you, stark and dreadful and inescapable: Shall we put an end to the human race; or shall mankind renounce war?"

  • Peace was never an option.

    (I had to)

  • I'm not sure I agree with your premise for this video. There is likely to be a war happening somewhere at any given time, but we are not all at war all the time. I have never taken part in war, and most places in the world are not currently at war. We just hear about the places that are a lot more.

  • Oh man I really want to make a video response now... Maybe next week when my exams are over.

  • I honestly don't think it is possible for us to end war. Though I would love to be proven wrong.

But, I think, as long as one "part of the world"/nation/population/some-better-term believes that there is something worth fighting wars for, there will be war. And even though I can't quite comprehend why some people would choose war, I do think that there will always be those who think it is the better alternative.

  • I hope so.

I plan to think about this and re-watch this video when I am less sleep-deprived and get back to you.

  • I really want to say yes. I want to believe that there will be an end to war. My rational side however tells me that the instinct of always wanting to rise to power within humans is too strong for there to ever be peace.

I would say that for it to ever be any kind of peace we first need to get rid of weapons, which sadly in today's society is impossible. Without weapons and means of destruction, there would be no such thing as war, there would be disagreements yes, but not war.

  • The answer is seemingly difficult to come up with, despite being a "yes/no".

There will be always disagreements (putting it lightly). It's when disagreements tip over the violence scale that wars happen.

Let those in power be peaceful and tolerant. Then there might be time enough to resolve disagreements without resorting to violence.

I think the more frightful prospect is whether the end of war means the end of humans, because it'll be the last thing we do...

  • i truly hope so.

  • To end all conflicts would mean that all people would really have to focus on others and not their own interests and be completely and utterly selfless in all goals. That's probably impossible, but I do wish it could happen, sometimes. That kind of empathy is not human, and I want to be human.

  • s decision to share and to love one another. But since that is virtually impossible, I say no, war can not be abolished.
