No bivalve is more American than the clam nor is any other shell-dweller more versatile in the kitchen. Learn the ins and outs of clam identification, decide which ones to use where, buy a clam opening device and make a wicked chowder.

Recipes featured in this episode: Radonsky for the New Millenium, Clams on the Half Shell with Fresh Mayonnaise, and Clam Chowder.

  • "Today's clam supply, commercial clam supply at least, are as squeaky clean as the inside of a good used car."

    That's pretty dirty, actually.

  • oO Alton does a really good impression of Steve Irwin.....

  • AB is to Julia Child as LeBron and Dirk and KG are to Bird and Magic and Jordan---the very best at what they do in their time, and a heckuva argument as to just who's better overall.

  • lowest on the food chain ,,, right next to lawyers ....

  • 1/3 history show, 1/3 science show, 1/3 cooking show. All awesome.

  • @ncisheadslapper Not really. At least logically, A=B doesn't always mean B=A. In most of mathematics, yes, but logically, no.

Also, a clamming knife is hard to spread with. >.>

  • If a butter knife could double as a clamming knife, then by that same logic couldn't a clamming knife be used as a butter knife?

  • 7:43 -- not with the oil spill they're not.

  • Why are people giving this comment thumbs down!? Steve Irwin was a bona fide hero!

  • I love this show!
