Pillaiyar is being characterised as an imported god from Vathapi by the so called historians of Tamil Nadu. This stone carved idols of Ganesha [pillaiyar], Murugan, Valli have been found in Velli Malai, Thatkalai of kanyakumari district. These are dated as belonging to the second sanga era [by conservative estimates well before the third sanga era of 4th century BCE]. The kandha purana talks about the gods of the age. Well above 1500 feet above sea level the Gods near the ever lasting fountain are overseeing the world undeneath.
