King's Quest VI - Ways to Lose - Part 7 of 10

"Uh oh, a guard dog is chasing me! Maybe if I stand perfectly still and close my eyes then he won't see me."

This is an attempt to exhaust all possible ways to lose in King's Quest VI. Part 7 shows the ways Alexander can get caught in the Castle of the Crown when playing the main path (i.e. using Magic Paint to get in the castle).

These clips don't necessarily lose the game though (except for the ghost clip and the second Jollo clip) if you have a way to escape.

The clips of Alexander getting caught in the basement hallways probably deserve a little explanation. I try to post every clip that contains unique dialogue, even if it's just one line. So although Alex says the same words in each hallway, if you listen closely, you can tell there are different recordings for each hallway.

Furthermore, the narrator has unique "Alexander's been seen!" recordings when Alex gets caught napping in the north and east hallways, but he doesn't say anything in the west hallway. That's why I don't have a clip of the guard walking into Alex over there. Lastly, it is impossible to talk to the guard in the north hallway; the guard always spots you immediately.

When I group several clips together, that means each of the clips has the same result from that point onward, and I show that result only on the last such clip.

I've played and beaten this game since 1994, when I was a small child.

And yet recently, by watching your videos, I've been learning of some things that in all the years I've played this game, I never knew were possible.

The "ghost in the dungeon" way of losing is yet another of them. In all the years I've played this game, I never knew until now about that.

Why can't Alexander use the skeleton key to get out of the cell in that case?

@barichm0 They post an extra guard by the door because they're spooked by the ghost.

But really, the reason they end the game right there is because the game is already impossible to solve by that point. If you don't have the handkerchief then you can't get in the secret passage.

wow this is kindof like those choose your own adventure books, like you can progress through the story, but if you didnt get that item a while back, youre screwed no matter where you go. so even if you start over, youre not sure where you went wrong.

Alexander: Why, oh why, didn't I think of getting several hundred cats and setting them loose in the castle as a diversion? They are Guard DOGS, after all!

@BrotherlyFluff This happened to me when I played the game back in middle school. You can still win by using the peppermint leaves on the Genie. He gets drunk and kills himself with his own spell, But, the ending isn't as happy because Alexander has no way of inviting his family to the wedding or even letting them know he's still alive. Befriending Jollo and getting him to swap the lamps so you can claim the Genie works much better

You can torrent it relatively easily but that's not always safe, as far as viruses and legal trouble.

for some reason i just like that one dog that sounds like John Wayne, it always makes me laugh...pilgrim
