Featuring all the surviving Deltic Locomotives together in one place for the 50th anniversary of the Deltic, I travelled up to the National Railway Museum in County Durham for their celebratory weekend to mark the occasion.

  • Great vid, Does the "Prototype" actually work? If not I wonder way it hasn't been full restored? also love the craftsman pipes on 022 they really put the finishing touches to the livery.

  • @imautuber444 Many thanks. The Prototype DP2 does not work, because it has no engines as far as I am aware. Your question is also one I would like to know the answer to, but personally I can only see it being a museum piece, but who knows? Cheers

  • The original DP2 was involved in an accident at Thirsk in the summer of 1967. It ended up being scrapped and its engines being put in Royal Oak and ending up in 55 037. I first saw DP2 while trainspotting in Batley in 1963, my friends and I all chorused "DP2??"!

  • Fantastic video Kyle!!Thumps Up!!!

  • @KBRAILVIDEOS Yes, I went to Bury on the 15th of October. I arrived there around 5.30am. I took to oppertunity to take some photo's without people. Wasn't that easy, as I couldn't get on the platform. But it was awesome to see and hear those beasty machines!

  • @KBRAILVIDEOS Liked that very much.

I think DP1 has engines- in fact I believe you can see them through the windows in this footage. IIRC she suffered some sort of major failure which prompted withdrawal. There are differences between her and the production Deltics and I suppose she was deemed too non-standard to bother with.

Much the same happened to the whole class twenty-odd years later of course.

  • @molzips Many thanks

  • @dvtape Many thanks
