actually, san francisco giants fans have been chanting beat LA as early as the sixties. I've heard the cute celtics version of how the chant originated many times, but is unfortunately incorrect. The chant started in the 1960's soon after both the Giants and Dodgers moved west from NY. sorry for bursting your bubble.

Yeah, I'm a lakers fan living in LA all my life, and I know that this chant came from Boston back in the early 80's, But hey we the Champs now, and we have our own saying in L.A.. " You Cant Beat LA" and it's true... 2009 Champions Los Angeles Lakers.!!! Where is Boston Now... Gone Fishin'
