These are a great starter set for anyone just starting out. I have the regular brushes and bought this set to compare and the quality is definately second rate. They special edition are more scratchy and a poorer quality of hair has been used. You can tell because there are darker stands mixed in whereas the regular brushes are pure white, softer and denser. Nice little travel kit but not the high quality mac are known for.

just a suggestion: when you show close ups of any item, (i.e. the make up brushes) please be sure to put your palm behind the item at the level of the camera lens so that it can focus on the item and not you in the background. Doing this will ensure proper focusing for your audience who're curious about the look and content of the item on display. Thanks!

@everyoneissleeping I heard they get softer after you wash them. Sorry I cant tell you from experience but I would try that :)

@AmySaysRawr15 If you still haven't got this white brush set from Mac I would suggest that you go to the store yourself (as an opposite to buying them online) and check if you'll still like them after you get to see them with your own eyes and hopefully touch them. I'm not trying to scare anyone off. I just got this set today and I was dissapointed by the hair in those brushes (the color is darker than it seems on the computer screen and they aren't as soft as you would expect for this price).

From what I hear Mac regular brushes are *much* better than the holiday sets, and not just this season but it seems to be some kind of a rule there... I've got the same brush kit as you did and I can't say that I'm impressed with the quality :-( Which is sad because the handles are *gorgeous*. Anyway, what I'm trying to say is - if you get a chance to try Mac's regular brushes it may be worth a shot. I think I will... but for now I will try to enjoy those white ones. They *are* pretty.
