My client (VES Conveyor Belts) had customer calls (2-3 per week) because they couldn't insert the barb into the hose. The trick required catching the barb on the inside of the hose, then walking it in as shown. This didn't become apparent until really understanding my client's problem.
This is certainly not for everything, but it is an alternative (or stop gap measure) to product re-design, and a way to "Like" users of your product.
