Dr. David Tinkelman of National Jewish Health comments on an FDA panel looking at whether menthol should be restricted or banned in cigarettes.

Menthol cigarettes are smoked by more than 18 million adults and 1 million minors in the United States.

National Jewish Health operates tobacco quitlines for seven states -and several health plans.

  • I agree. It is a question of freedom. I respect the Dr's thoughts, and I am happy to hear him speak. But adults need to make their own choices, not the FDA and not the government. Prohibition acts have come and gone in this country. These arguments are not new.

  • The problem here is a question of freedom. An adult in this country is supposed to be free to make stupid choices. Provided it's a question of pure self harm and not harm to others.

    Yes, smoking is a bad choice. So is drinking. . . how well did banning that go?
