Severed Lizard Tail is Alive....ALIIIIIIIIIIVE!

Meredith and I were at a pet store looking at three lizards that were sharing a tank (two big skinks and a smaller skink). Suddenly, out of nowhere, one of the big skinks ran across the cage and started DEVOURING the little skink.

He scarfed the little guy down whole except for the tail which he bit off! The severed tail flopped around the cage for a good two minutes (to our horror and amusement).

Lizards can release their tails willingly. It is a survival method it brings attention off of them if prey is chasing them. There might be more reasons for this, but idk lolol.

Actually thats very common. I used to have a monitor lizards and I occassionally fed him house lizards and the same thing also happened.

ZOMG That JUST happened to us! There was a lizard in our office so we caught it in a box and took it to the patio to give to the cat and it's popped it's tail off in the box and when we dumped it the tail moved for like 3 minutes. It was terrifying.
