The Suite bergamasque is one of the most famous piano suites by Claude Debussy. It was likely named after Paul Verlaine's poem "Clair de lune", which possibly alludes to a bergamask. It is also commonly believed that the Suite Bergamasque is derived from Fêtes Gallantes, a poem by Paul Verlaine. Debussy wrote the suite in 1888 at age 26, but it was not published until 1903. It has four movements:
1.Prélude
2.Menuet
3.Clair de lune
4.Passepied
The suite has been orchestrated by many composers, including André Caplet, Leopold Stokowski and Lucien Cailliet.

Clair de Lune
The third movement of Suite bergamasque is its most famous; It is mostly played pianissimo and is in D-flat major.

  • I have got to hand i to him: he plays brillant. On the other hand some parts, I think actually most of them, are too fast. The moon is gentle, slow and magnificent so I think it's better to play it more calme. Let the music flow :p

    Don't blame me if I'm wrong, I'm only 16.

  • This is your piece, Jules.

    Beautiful.
