  • Sorry JohnyJamie...

you're wrong. Jesus never existed. The story of Jesus is a myth compiled from other savior stories. Do some research. You'll find there is no historical evidence other than the Bible that claims he existed.

There are plenty of other ways to God. Plenty.

    You are wrong.

  • I dont understand how a church can say it's based on a christian background but then say but we dont believe in the bible as the word of god and you don't even have to believe in God! the other video I watched said that you are free to choose your religion at this church. then what do you believe. you might as well be agnostic. its the same thing.. you believe in something you just dont know what.. you either believe in God of you don't.

  • I think you may be mistaken in thinking my religion says it's "based on a Christian background". We acknowledge our historical beginnings are from Christianity, but as an entire faith group, we are not Christians.

It's true we are encouraged to follow our own path. Some believe in God the way most Americans do, some believe in God the way Deists, Theists, Agnostics and Atheists view God.

But if you think it's as simple as black and white then perhaps Christianity IS the best fit for you.

  • @luke1720 you are a lying, loathing beast. Your conscience is seared with red hot iron for denying the Lord from Heaven - Jesus Christ. Fall on your knees before the Savior and stop denying the truth revealed from heaven. JESUS IS LORD!

  • @johnyjamie TRUTH! JESUS IS LORD! Every knee will bow, every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is LORD to the GLORY of God the Father! AMEN! Come Lord Jesus and set up your Messianic rule and bring JUSTICE, RIGHTEOUSNESS and PEACE! JESUS IS LORD!

UUs draw from all faiths, so yes, there are some people who hold Sufist beliefs. At the very least, you're more likely to find some folks who've read Rumi at a UU church than most places.

  • Is Universal Sufi very popular in Unitarian Churchs?

  • @rhiannon623 UUism sprang out of two separate Christian traditions (Unitarianism and Universalism). It is no longer a Christian church, although our roots are still reflected in many of our ceremonies today. We do not require belief in God or in Jesus...but all UUs believe in Jesus' message of charity, love and humility, even if we don't all believe in his (or God's) existence.

Incidentally, we DO believe in something. Look at uua.org to find our 7 principles, if you want.

  • @luke1720 As UUs, we often get caught up in the rigidity that we profess to avoid. I do not feel it is very UU to scorn another person's beliefs. I too generally disagree with @johnyjamie, but think the best way to have a discussion with someone is to respect his/her right to have that opinion, even if it differs from your opinion. Only in that way can we expand our own horizons and learn to find the truth in concepts or ideas we generally disagree with! Think about it. Peace to you both.

  • @luke1720 @johnyjamie

As a UU, I believe Jesus existed, but only as a wonderful man. I don't think he was the son of god, but someone who wanted to hope and faith to other people. (there is also no possibility for Mary to give birth when she was still a virgin... Unless she was asexual)

  • @johnyjamie You're actually correct about Zeitgeist, and about historical sources for Jesus. One thing, though. You think Palestine was relatively unimportant to the Romans? It was part of Asia minor: the pathway to Persia and beyond. It was in the center of the world. It was vitally important.

Also, just because secular historians wrote about Christ teaching does not mean that his teachings are true. There is a distinction there.

  • @luke1720 Luke, I'm afraid you're wrong too. There is evidence that Jesus existed, both in historians from the time period, and in the writers of the gospel; it's just that there is no evidence he did or said much of anything attributed to him.

Also, if you're taking your "saviour stories" from zeitgeist or the like, do more research. His stories are inaccurate, twisted, or downright invented to fit his theory.

  • Well said luke720.
