Ah, Percival. A country boy who has become the most noble and faithful of all the knights. What a wonderful legend this is, that allows the most humble lad to become the last of the very best. The last man standing and true to the end, that's the man whose example we should honor.

Bringing our great heros back to life so we might learn from their examples. Isn't that what myths and legends and good films should do?

Thanks for posting this beautiful scene.

Percival was the real hero of this version, he saved the Kingdom and in a sense, humanity with it .

He was the embodiment of hope, because like in the scene when he almost drowns he realizes hope is all he has, so he perseveres to find the truth thereby revealing the secret that has been hidden from Arthur .

It took a pure soul who was dedicated to compassion for his fellow man to turn back the darkness .

It's interesting how John Boorman made this film after a failed attempt at filming LOTR. In fact, the whole picture becomes more beautiful when you realise that Boorman intended in his take on Arthur was meant in his mind to be an unofficial spiritual sequel to LOTR, set a few ages after the end of LOTR where middle earth is becoming Europe, merlin is the last wizard and magic dies with Arthur, but evil is gone.

It's not canon but it's a beautiful tying together of two stories.

I'm still amazed after 31 years how the sword goes down perfectly straight in the water, no computer trickery back then...
