... and many also obviously love cute and mostly furry animals. There's a lack of responsibility there too because taking care of one is not as hard as taking care of a human being. When people lose contact with humans or can't get along because of their mutual problems they take care of animals believing that this is a more noble thing to do. No reason why you shouldn't care about animals but when people say animals good people bad there is a strong zealousness at work.

I'm not trying to bash Neko Case, but she has a similar background to many people who put animals first. She was very ignored by her parents (believe she shares some of it on her website) and as a result she spent more time around animals. But its a common tendency to see a kind of escape with animals because they're easier to get along with. They couldn't talk back at you even if they wanted to and they're not as complex in their behaviour. It's no reason to place dogs over people

Don't know your political perspective but just note that you have a very anti-democratic view of people...Most people are good and when faced with their own cruelty they cannot stand it. We must become aware and face the truth. As Orwell said in "1984:" "Freedom is the freedom to say 'two and two is four.' If that is granted, all else follows."
